Do You Seek Feedback?

“Courageous people seek feedback. They want to hear how others perceive them. Just like all workplace competencies, courage can be learned. To integrate a new level of self-discipline, you may need to face a paralyzing fear or confront patterns of denial. Sometimes what you are suited for is not on your radar. Isolating yourself to one career may hide (or hinder) your transferable skills.

What is important is to learn how you are going to let the real you shine. Sometimes losing a job is the kick in the butt that motivates us to push apathy away and demand more in our lives. In Inevitable Grace, Piero Ferrucci writes, ‘We therefore live a life far below our psychological and spiritual means. Also, there are ways of discovering—or rediscovering—who we are and of what we are capable. Sometimes this is an easy process that is carried out in an elegant fashion.… At other times it is fraught with trials and errors, doubts and sheer hard work. But it is always worth it.”’
