No one is guaranteed a job anymore. Even if the company you work for is thriving, there is a creeping sense that no job is safe (or permanent), which means heightened uncertainty and confusion that reinforces the reluctance to step up in courage and reveal vulnerability. We witness emotionally battered colleagues, friends and neighbors trying to pick up the pieces of lives that are no less devastated than the victims of actual storms.
